I've found it useful to use the household cat in other tests, too.
An easy one-handed test for a broken fan belt is to place the cat inside
the engine room and start the engine. If there is no immediate noise other
than the engine, then the fan belt is not broken.
They are also useful in testing the HT ignition circuits.
