The damper link ball will spin in the rubber socket when it is tired.
Originally the ball would be solid, but they do break free with age.  It's
ok to use them in this shape so long as there is no play.

The shank of the bolt is tapered, just as in the front sway bar link.  It is
supposed to be tight in the shackle plate.  When removing, if the shank
comes loose you may be able to retighten it with a soft blow to the ball of
the link.

The best tool to remove the nut is an impact air wrench, as that does not
put as much rotational force on the shank.
