If you used a wadding polish like Eagle 1 It is not much of an abrasive cleaner 
which in many cases is good especially the repro bumpers. For metals I use 
Mother's but there are many other products out there. What I would suggest is 
to use prgressively finer grades of steel wool, I would start with 0 grade and 
maybe finish with 0000 depending on how shiny you want it. work with the 
'grain' of the metal if there is one.
