As it turns out, it wasn't a stuck starter after all (sure sounded like one 
though), but apparently the gaskets blew at the air intake and it was a 
full-blown vacuum leak (which also explains why the damn thing didn't want 
to start in the morning).  It's much happier now, and I didn't have to 
spring for a starter to boot.
