If it isn't cranking enough to start then check the voltage on the battery
posts (not the clamps) while cranking. Less than 9v indicates a flat or
weak battery, much more than 10v indicates bad connections in the
heavy-current circuit between battery and starter. Of course you could have
both problems, and by measuring the volt-drops in the heavy current circuit
you can detect the latter.
