It shouldn't be, you will lose cruising economy without it, and bugger the
mixture if you didn't plug the port as well.  As long as the vacuum advance
is correctly located with the moving points plate the only thing that can go
wrong is a punctured diaphragm.  Easy to replace, but a bit pricey for what
it is.
