Larry,

Your list of cars owned and enjoyed closely mirrors my own, with only
some minor differences (e.g. 510 instead of a 260). I, too, have
considered the Miata as a car that would offer many of the same
Motorsport advantages and fewer of the disadvantages of the B. The
Miata is currently a remarkable deal. $3-5K will now get a better Miata
than B for the same money (if you overlook the inherent superiority of
the classic!). This probably could not be said just a few years ago.
The B's are inching up in value, while the Miatas are inching down.

My GT in current form is about as good a performer as a stock 1.8 liter
Miata. That is with a few seasons of development and thousands of
dollars of suspension and engine modifications. I have considered the
strategy of keeping the GT in its current iteration, and putting future
efforts into a Miata. It would be a better strategy for competitive
reasons, as you mentioned, but also such a move would preserve the GT in
what is now a mostly period-correct, road-going performance trim.

If I had to choose, I'd keep with the GT. But maybe I don't have to
choose.....I hope my wife never reads this.

Dean
