A reply to Paul Hunt:
 
The first website you referenced had some erroneous information. I have
a 1972 MGB, sn# 286919, built in June of 1972. The chart seems to push
my B into 73-74 which it is not. 
 
I also have added an overdrive transmission with my original
speedometer, and would say that the difference would be very minimal for
street use. The advantage of an overdrive unit is overwhelming, allowing
for 75 mph cruising at app. 3500 rpm.
