What does "temp gauge goes to hot" mean to you?  Is the needle over the
little white bar on the right?  If not, it's not hot.  

The "N" should be removed from all the MGB gauges.  The normal range is the
area between the left white bar and the right white bar.  I suspect most
MGBs will run about 1/8" inch to the right of the N when driving down the
road.  And most won't get closer than 1/8" from the right white bar when
idling.

Did you loose coolant?  If not the engine isn't overheated.
