Oil cooler stainless hose doesn't fit

Listers,
"Somewhere" I read that I should go with a 19 row oil cooler for my 69C 
Roadster. So I 'm trying to install the stainless braided hoses and the 
short one won't fit cause the cooler is to tall. I took out the spacers and 
have it flat on the deck.  I tried all different ways to attach it with no 
luck.  I was thinking maybe the braided hoses have more bulk and a longer 
snout to them. So maybe the rubber ones might fit better. Anyone have 
experience with this?
