The first time I titled my V8 in Ohio, they didn't even see the G. On most
of the VIN tags I have seen it is off near the black area of the tag and the
lady didn't see it. Luckily I caught it on the vin verification sheet
before she actually converted the title from Colorado to Ohio.

Considering that all the other digits are the same I doubt that this would
be the end of the world, but burocracy being what it is, you never know. I
actually had to take a trip to Colorado (I was going anyways) in order to
straighten out a problem before Ohio would accept the title. When I titled
it in CO they did James Nazarian but legally I am James H Nazarian Jr and
Ohio would not accept the title from Colorado. I suppose I could have had
my dad sell the car to me, but I already owned it! Fortunately the state of
Colorado didn't seem to mind changing the name so it was relatively easily
solved.

Apparently, there was an instance in Ohio where a kid took his grandfathers
classic car and sold it because they had the same name. The car was
recovered but now they are real sticklers about names.

Larry, the suffix 'G' was added from 1967, to indicate that the car was
built in Abingdon (versus???)..... Interesting to note that Clausager
writes: "The suffix letter G is a cause of many problems for the British
verhicle registration authorities as the DVLA computer frequently renders it
as an extra '6' or '9' on the registration document." This is from 'Original
MGB' but I assume would apply to Midgets also.

Guys,

I recently bought a 1972 Midget with a title that shows the engine # rather
than the VIN #. The vehicle has an Illinois title (showing the engine #),
but
a Certificate of Registration (showing the VIN #) from Wisconsin where it
was
kept at the PO's summer home. The Certificate of Registration shows the VIN
#
as being GAN5UC1138946. The actual VIN # is GAN5UC113894 G. My state Dept.
of Motor Vehicles says they can get it all straightened out and retitled
after
having the vehicle inspected.

My question is what does the G at the end of the serial # mean? I see in the
Moss catalog on the Production Data page they list a "G" after the serial #
only in years 76 on. I plan on having this documentation from Moss handy for
the inspection in case it is needed, but would like a ready answer in case
this is questioned.

With this comedy of errors, I figure I better be able to come up with some
plausible answers before the questions are asked. Any clues on the "G" at
the
end?
