Another solution via a different approach. Check with a good video store for
a surveillance camera with a cable feed -- These can be found for about US$100
(or less for b&W) and are about the size of a fountain pen. One nice set-up
I've seen put the camera inside a waterproof flashlight case, wrapped in foam,
and then clamped the case to the roll bar. The camera then is simply securely
mounted inside the car where you can reach the on-off controls and the cable
is plugged into the camera. For another alternative, you could fasten the cam
to your helmet to get a real racer's eye view of the track.
