This should not be the case.  The wired ground does not supply the tail,
stop or directional signals, the ground for those comes from the mechanical
mounting of the light units to the wings, and this also applies to the
parking and directional lights on chrome bumper cars (rubber bumper front
directions do have a wired ground).  Only the reversing lights, fuel tank
sender and fuel pump use the wired ground in the boot/trunk.
