I believe there are  3 spline sizes - Spitfire/Sprite, which may use the same 
diameter but are  shorter, the regular MG TR Sunbeam etc, and the large 
diameter used on Jags (I  think Aston was the smaller diam. but I could be 
wrong).
 
The various applications waffled back and  forth between coarse and fine 
thread on the knock-offs.
 
When I was working on my Lambo, I found that the Campagnolo wheels used the  
same spline as the British ones, and I held the wheels on the car for awhile  
with soem spare MG spinners while the Campagnolo items were out being  
rechromed.
 
What do you think of this for a nice swap onto my MGC - 7" magnesium  wheels?
