I have HIFs on my 74 and HS on my 77.
Either is fine for your application.
You'll need MGB dual carb intake and exhaust manifolds.
IMHO you want to go to a late 60's distributor (41491 ?) and run manifold
vacuum advance.
Check MGB specs for float settings needles etc.
I've found the HIFs to be very reliable after rebuilding but they MUST be
rebuilt every 50K miles.
The half-round foam filters fit on the 77 with a minor "adjustment" to the
rear filter.
This will make a significant improvement particularly when you
de-smog..................oh.... I mean performance tune. :-)
