I don't know about Sears welders, but I bought a El Cheapo Harbour  
Freight 110v Flux Core welder that had this same setup.  Set the  
stinger down on my steel work surface and it would flash you to  
blindness.  I used it maybe twice with poor results and sold it at a  
yard sale for 1/2 what I paid for it, and was glad to get that much.   
I then bought a Hobart 110v Flux Core/Mig welder at a local Feed and  
Farm supply superstore and I couldn't be more pleased.  Add the auto- 
darkening helmet I bought and the amount of control is simply amazing.
