Steve,
I lifted the MGB with jack under the axle, then supported it on
jackstands at the front spring hangars by carefully placing a short (4 or
5 inches) piece of 2x3 on top of the stands in such a way that it crushed
into the spring support on top and the jack stand on bottom, and was very
rigid.
