Greetings:

I drove my '73 MGB into the garage after a fine day of cruising -- all was
good. We had about 2 weeks of very rainy weather and I left the vehicle in the
insulated garage with the doors and windows closed. Lots of condensate on
floor under the low-slung MG. I went to start it after the 2 weeks of wet damp
weather and it would not start for love nor money. The distributor cap was
damp and the condenser etc looked like they were/had been damp. I replaced the
wires, coil, points, condenser and the rotor.

The new points were not looking right so I replaced them with the old points.
I noticed that the rotor shaft was not pushed all the way down so I pushed it
down the last 1/4 inch. With the help of starting fluid I managed to get to
started - barely as it was really rough. I check the firing order and,
according to my trusty Haynes manual, I had the cylinders firing in the wrong
order. I changed that and, feeling cocky, put the new points back in (old ones
did need replacing). I'm out of starter fluid and I can't get it to start.

I checked the coil and it is firing. I tested the plugs and they are sparking.
(I also gapped the best I could the points and they are firing). There is
fuel. I did get a couple great backfires so I think there may be some delayed
detonation.

It is Sunday afternoon and hot day made for cruising and I'm inside typing.
Crap.

Anyone throw me a hint?

Thanks,

Steve
