Paul,

Thanks for all of your insight. A friend of mine "glued" the rear  
fenders onto his Spitfire. As far as I know, I think it went well.  
I'll have to get back to him on the details. I do like the idea of it  
so that you can do rust preventative measures before the panel is put  
on.
