More likely blow the electronics under where it should be, I've always 
assumed, and as such pretty major and sudden :o)  OTOH maybe 'flash' refers 
to light from the spark jumping from rotor to cap confusing an optical 
trigger, rather than an HT spark jumping to where it shouldn't.
