Fair points Paul!  Although the government, albeit when it was being run
by a different bunch, obviously thought it was worth introducing the
exemption in the first place.

But you're probably right - a bunch of people who can afford to own
extra cars they don't actually need are hardly likely to elicit much
sympathy.  And those who use them as their only cars (as I did for many
years) should arguably be paying the full rate of tax, as they are using
plenty of road, anyway.  And when did Labour EVER reduce tax on
ANYTHING???  But I'd still like to see a minister try and justify
themselves to the 2654 (and counting) signatories so far.

The original Sammy was the same as yours: a Black Tulip, sold in Feb '73
but originally built in Dec '72, so she squeezed in as tax free - and
she was used daily, as my only car.  Sammy II is identical spec (apart
from the radio aerial postion, oddly, and with wing mirrors not door
mirrors), but built just a few months later :-(
