A friend who runs a small shop is working on a 1980 MGB=E2=80=94the first r=
ubber-bumper B he=E2=80=99s encountered. Neither he nor anyone else who lo=
oks at the car can understand why the cooling system was designed with no o=
pening (cap) at the highest point to let fluid in or=E2=80=94more important=
ly=E2=80=94to let air out of the system, and with no tap at the bottom to d=
rain the coolant.

Anyone experienced in dealing with this cooling system have any suggestions=
? He=E2=80=99s thinking of inserting a piece of tubing with a filler cap i=
nto the upper radiator hose to speed up system refill and get the air out o=
f the head=E2=80=94he suspects this is why the owner had overheating proble=
ms.

My =E2=80=9971 B/GT is in the shop next to this =E2=80=9980, and we wonder =
why the later car had the radiator/oil cooler positions reversed and a dual=
electric fan fitted. The previous layout would seem to offer better cooli=
ng, and my car never had any overheating problems.

I wouldn=E2=80=99t dare repeat his comments on the job of bleeding the clut=
ch system. He=E2=80=99s an old-time racing mechanic and believes that part=
s ought to be ACCESSIBLE. We are convinced that British car designers were=
getting revenge for England=E2=80=99s having lost the Revolutionary War=E2=
=80=A6.

Thank in advance,
Sarah Carr
