2006 Mini Baja Top Technical Issues from East

1. Roll cage tubes were made out of material that was thinner than .065". 8
teams had to construct new roll cages while at competition, it is much easier
if you fix this while you are still at your school.

2. Cars were too narrow and could not meet the minimum 3" from the outside of
the cockpit tubes. Teams had to add extensions out of roll cage material to
make the cage wide enough.

3. Splash guards were not adequate. Splash guards should be designed so that
when anyone is rushing up to the car they can not pour fuel directly on the
engine

4. Check valves were not sealed in the gas cap, gas caps would leak, and the
drip pans were leaking. Check these items before you arrive at competition

5. Helmets were not Snell 2000 rated

6. Upper garments must have and SFI rating or be Nomex, nothing else will be
allowed

7. During Brake test, teams were not able to lock up all four wheels on
pavement. Make sure you test your car before you come to competition to
ensure that you can lock up all four wheels on PAVEMENT.

8. If OEM brake rotors, hub and calipers are used so that you don't have to
meet the normal fastener requirements, then you must use the OEM hardware that
the OEM parts were designed to use.

9. If a team is going to run a snorkel system they can only use the Briggs
kit listed in the rules. They can not modify the air going to in the Stock
air intake and say that is not relocation the air filter.

10. If teams are using a racing seat they need to make sure the belts still
meet the requirements for the width.

11. When teams come to tech please make sure all documents are signed by your
team captain and the advisor. If they are not signed it will be treated as if
your team did not come prepared for tech.

I hope this helps your team be better prepared for Tech Inspection. We are
strictly enforcing 3 missed items and you are going to the back of the line.

Good Luck,

Jason Rounds

National Tech Inspector.
