2006 Mini Baja Major Cost Report Issues



7        Teams did not put the car numbers for the different events (next year
reports will receive a -100 for not doing this, this year -5pts)

7        Teams did not use the separate event sections for the different
competitions

7        Teams submitted the wrong template, or modified the 2006 template so
that things were not linked, the template was locked for a reason.

7        Teams did not submit any receipts, no way to verify prices (-50pts)

7        Teams did not label receipts correctly as requested in the
instructions(Section 3.4.7.2) and amounts were not circled.

7        The only format allowed for the excel template is .xls. All
supporting info can only be in .PDF format.

7        Many teams named the excel template mbcostreport.xls (240+ teams sent
reports it has hard to know which on is which if they have the same name) all
files must be your school name. (-3pts this year, next year -100pts)

7        No vehicle assembly labor was included on ~30% of the reports, all
cars should have labor to put the subassemblies on to the frame/chassis.

7        The engine cost was not correct on ~30% of the reports, $628 is the
suggested retail price, it does not matter how much you pay for it.  All cars
are using the same engine and all must use the same cost.

7        Many teams are still using the purchase price for items instead of
using the suggested U.S. retail price.



In general report templates were filled out very well but supporting
documentation was very weak, some teams sent in 3-4 receipts while others had
50 receipts.  Most teams should have between 20-30 receipts on average.
(Engine, shocks, tires, rims, transponder, kill switch, springs, seat belts,
bearings, rod ends, and so on)



Next Year



You will only be able to submit 2 files, the excel template (<1mb) and the PDF
file (<4mb).  The PDF file must include the summary page of your report
completely signed off, receipts, any photos and drawings that you want to
include, and overview.



Also, certain parts (shocks, tires, rims) will be already be labeled in the
template so you will just put the price in.  This will help us compare big
ticket items across teams.
