Charles,

* Twin spares suggests to me pre-1955.
* As I recall, the chassis number on my 1952 +4 is 2473, so a chassis
number <2000 should be pre-1952.
* The chassis number should also be stamped on one of the cross
members of the chassis, in front of the seats.
* If the car is pre-1952, the engine should have been a Vanguard
engine, so one of the previous owners replaced the engine.

Hope this helps. You may also want to check with the factory but make sure
that you have the correct chassis number.

Mr. Blair,
I live in Pennsylvania and have just bought a Plus Four from a widow.
There is no title. I am trying to figure out the year of the car. There
is a serial number in the rear of the engine compartment, on a strip just
in front of the windshield. The serial number is 1899. The car has a
Triumph engine TS 828 FR, two spare tires, a riveted air scoop on the right
half of the engine hood. Can you tell me, or direct me, to the year of the
car? I am most appreciative.
