Hi Kent, you've just scratched the surface. I hope that was a typo for
petrol. Another firewall term is scuttle.

A few additions:
wrench / spanner, windshield / windscreen, hub cap / nave plate, kerosene /
parafin, bumper guard / overrider, intake manifold / inlet manifold, freeway
/ motorway, generator / dynamo, shock absorbers / dampers, sedan / saloon,
oil pan / sump, fender skirts / spats, glove box / cubby, electrical ground /
earth, left / nearside, right / offside, insurance / cover, pavement /
tarmac, rubber cover / gaiter, idle / tick, sportscar / roadster, toilet /
loo, vinyl / leathercloth, window / light, parking light / sidemarker, travel
trailer / caravan, subway / tube, lockwasher / spring washer, etc. / &tc.

Then the spelling peculiarities such as colour, carburettor, and on it goes.
