I am looking for a project car such as a spitfire or something different, was
wondering if anyone has some shelved project they are wanting to get rid of .
running or not. The spitfire with the buick v6 was along the line of what I am

Not really what I said last night but I didn't think it was appropriate to put
my actual exclaimation...
I digress.
Not sure which thread had this suggestion but I had to pop on and say thanks
and acknowledge the success of soaking rusted part in white vinegar.
Last week, I managed to part out a 77 Spitfire with full original seats and
tracks. PO had obviously hit some rain with the top down as his floor boards
and seat tracks were rusted but the under carriage was in fine shape. The rust
was bad enough that the seats would not slide at all. I striped the seats,
pulled off the tracks and soaked them on a bin with 4 gallons of white vinegar
starting Monday morning.
Last night I went to check on the mix and didn't see and improvement. I pulled
one of the tracks out and the rust, grease and debris simply sloughed right
off the tracks leaving bare, clean metal.
I was flabbergaster. Even the bolts I left in the mix looked to be in near
perfect condition. The tracks glide easily and look as close to new as I have
ever seen. I am now looking for full-sized swimming pools to fill with white
vinegar as a new method for restoring rusted cars.
Dang this was cool to find out.
