Hi Leah,

Welcome to the list!  I've been where you are and have put a 350/TH350
onto a 54 1/2 ton frame.  I've started body work so I can get the body
back onto the frame now!

Something you might want to consider for the time being, which is one
thing I had considered, is to put a 350 in place of your six-cylinder. 
I spoke with Dave I think at Heavy Chevy and got a bellhousing for a
V8.  Changing the bellhousing, along with the correct clutch, pressure
plate etc, allows you to keep the rest of your drive line for the time
being and put in an updated (and more powerful) engine.  

I'm sure there are others on this list that have tried this route and
also the guys at Heavy Chevy are great resources as well -- they've
always been helpful whenever I had a question.
