I'm installing Air Ride in my 1950 Chevy 1/2 ton P.U. in two weeks and I'll
be sure to give you guy's the truth about the installation and ride quality
improvement if any.
I already have the Mustang II front suspension so I went with the Heidts air
ride conversion kit for the front. The reason I went with Heidts was mainly
because I can eliminate the lower strut bar with the tubular lower control
arm and the fact that they have the provision for the bottom out bumpers
built into the kit so if something happens to the bag, the suspension won't
totally collapse. With the Mustang II's the factory shock had the bottom
out bumper built into the shock and since that will be eliminated with the
air bags and newer lower shocks the suspension had no way of keeping it from
totally collapsing. All the other kits on the market don't have this
additional but mandatory safety feature. I could have saved money and just
added the air bags to the stock lower control arm but the lack of the safety
bumper kept me from making that purchase. I did go with Air Ride
Technologies 4 wheel compressor system which included (compressor, tank,
lines, fittings, dual gauge, control panel and switches). I'm going to get
the rear bags next month but route the lines now. I have to make up my own
rear brackets "not hard at all" to mount the bag on top of the leaf spring
and below the frame.
I'm converting over to Air Ride mainly to raise my truck so I can drive it
safely.
