I'd certainly advise AGAINST pulling the air versus pushing it.  When you
pull a vacuum (however slight) you run the risk of drawing nasty stuff in
with your fresh air supply.  With positive pressure however any leaks just
spew some of your fresh air into the environment.  However, I do agree with
the other previous post about being careful about other contaminants being
introduced into the fresh air stream.

Were I to do any painting with nasty paints, I'd really try to buy a fresh
air system.  Of course, I'd have to do something about my beard - can't
shave it as my wife and kids wouldn't know who I was.

That said let's keep brainstorming about this - if we can come up with a
safe, workable solution I'd jump at it!
