Don't use anything other than stuff made specifically for plastic.

I use Meguiars Plastic Cleaner (M17) to clean the plastic and remove 
scratches (kind of like a rubbing compound), followed by Meguiars 
Plastic Polish (M10) to coat the plastic and protect it (kind of 
like waxing it).  You should be able to find the stuff for around $7 
a bottle.   I've used it for many, many, years, and swear by it.  I 
originally used it to clean my face shields on my motorcycle 
helmets because they would get ruined so quickly.  Once I started 
using the Meguiars, I didn't need to buy replacement shields again 
until the rock hit and cracked it.  =8-O
