Scott, I believe it comes in different consistencies for different uses.
The cream would be for hand application, while the hard stuff is for use on
powered buffing wheels.  With the wheel running, hold the bar against the
edge briefly.  The heat from the friction will melt the bar slightly, and
load the wheel with tripoli.
