I've heard that it's because some of the coating on the 
galvanized pipe may tend to "come lose" and plug things 
like small openings (pilot lights, air regulators, etc.).

I have no idea if it's true or not...

It would normally seem that you'd want galvanized pipe
to reduce the corrosion...
