I've used variations of this on other things too.
Fishing wires through car panels (to the CHMSL light on the trunk lid
for instance) is one that comes to mind.
I've also "pushed" string through tubes/panels - with an air gun blowing
into the hole, feed the string, and it will find its way to the exit
rather quickly. Then use the string to pull the wire (or heavier
string) as necessary.
