I put a shelf all the way around my shop, just higher than my head.
Secured at the wall with screws and a 1x2. The outside edge is
supported with plumbing strap screwed through the ceiling to the
joists. I can always stand on a milk case to reach stuff on the shelf.
That's another thing. Milk cases. They stack up and can be used for
many things like stools for car work.
