The last time I did a tank, I dropped a chain inside and shook it until I
couldn't hold the tank up anymore.  Later, I did it again.

Wash it out really well with water before and after and you will be good to
go.  I painted the outside, but I don't ever put a coating on the inside.

Muriatic will work well, but it's nasty.  If you use it, do it outside too.

Hi -

I have a 25 year old moped fuel tank that I need to clean the rust out 
of. I was advised to use muriatic acid, but frankly I'd rather avoid 
that if possible.

What are your tried & true methods for tank cleaning?
