I must have had a brain fart. The oil line is the inlet to the pump, so 
the oil goes from the sump, through the screen, and is picked up by the 
pump.

A better description of the screen is sort of a half sphere with a hole 
in it that fits the oil pickup line. The open side of the sphere is 
closed off with a plate. Oil flows in through the screen, then is sucked 
up by the pump.

My mind is like a steel trap....rusted!
