I'll second that recommendation for pelican cases.  We use pelican cases for
all of our video gear.  They are not light, but they've done a great job of
protecting our gear, including ~5000 miles spent bouncing across the country
in the back of a pickup truck.

For bigger shipping cases, it's worth looking on govliquidation.com for some
military surplus items - assuming that you can find a use for a whole pallet
of them.  Here's a cursory search for 'shipping' on the site:
