Eric:

I added an electrical box that feeds off of the compressor shut-off switch.=
It houses an hour meter, volt meter and strobe. See photos at:

https://gilfuqua.smugmug.com/Other/Air-Compressor-Wiring/i-XT3B685

The system is wired so that the strobe flashes as long as there is power to=
the compressor. This reminds me to turn it off at the end of the day. I =
once had an airline break at night and my old compressor ran non-stop for t=
he night. I now turn it off when I leave the shop and the strobe helps jog=
 my memory to do so.

The hour meter and volt meter was wired so that they only come on while the=
compressor motor is running. This gives me an accurate hour reading and l=
ets me see that proper voltage is getting to the compressor. It also serve=
s as a reminder to change the oil regularly.

I also plumbed in an automatic drain valve. I have mine set so that it com=
es on for 10 seconds every time the compressor cycles. That way, I=92m sur=
e that water is regularly drained from the tank. You can buy similar contr=
ols to the one shown on eBay or an industrial supply house. Alternatively,=
you can hook up a short piece of clear hose from the compressor=92s drain =
with a shut off on the end. The water drains into the clear hose, providin=
g a visual indicator of condensation and an easy way to drain it. I had my=
hose made at a hydraulic shop from material that could take the compressed=
 air pressure.

IT was the one in the link. Product Code: PP07V080V1

$2450 with shipping (to the house), replacement oil after breakin, and hour=
 meter installed.

For my current compressor, the manual said to run it for the first 30 or 60=
minutes with the air valve open so it would not pressurize (free air runni=
ng, no load on the pump or motor).

Just curious, which of those compressors did you get?

best,

I'm not sure anything special can be done for break in other than not letti=
ng it run continuously and getting really hot. All I did on mine was change=
the oil a couple of times during the first 20 hours, then annually after t=
hat. But that might be a little excessive.
