And the current projection is that we may lose over 2 million people to this
new form of flu.  Any form of death that suddenly jumps by a factor of 100
(estimated) is bound to attract attention.

Ok, maybe it's no worse than the Spanish flu.  But the Spanish flu killed
more people worldwide than died in WWI.

True; but that prediction currently includes a roughly 1% chance of drowning
in your own phlegm, because there aren't enough ventilators and hospital
beds to go around.  Crappy way for anyone to die, even if it doesn't get you
personally.

I suppose, to a large extent, it boils down to what a human life is worth.
But every one of those 2.2 million potential deaths is someone's son, or
daughter, or grandkid, or grandparent, etc.  So maybe they are worth trying
to save after all.

And perhaps that is part of the issue.  Even though my first wife already
passed, I do have some great-grandkids that I want to grow up happy and
healthy even if I'm not there to see it.
