Speeking to the local garage owner neer where I am he donsen't recomend
anything done by people like Rimmer. The reson 600 pounds for a
re-built engin, it costs them 550 pounds for all the milling work acid
dipping and replacement parts at the machine shop. It dosen't seem to
add up! You live reasonably neer Camberage don't you? If so give TRGB
a call, they always seem a bit cheaper.

What I would personly do is a bit of DIY. You have to get the gearbox
out anyway. Relace the bearings, bushes, and synchro's, clean the sump
of your overdrive. I saw a stripped out gearbox for a Spitfire at my
local garage. It looks realy quite simple.

My next port of call if you don't feel confident is a local garage that
specialises in older cars, or gearboxes. I know of a place in Oxford
who wanted 300 pounds to relace gear box and final drive for my Metro.
(engin out and half striped down) I drive it in one day, drive away
another. Or if you live neer to the Juncion 13 of the M4(Newbury
Wantage) I can give you the number of the garage that I pester when I
need parts quick.
