Ryan,

This may have been a little ambigious and confusing.

"always hot" should be translated "always has power from the battery" so
it can keep things like the time and the preset channels.

The "hot air leak" I refer to is the hole required for running the thick
lamp wire throught the firewall. It was running through the grommet that
is supposed to be solely for the windshield washer tubing.

Two points here when you get around to looking at this on your Spit.

a) If and when you discover a wire running directly to the battery, just
make sure the hole (where ever that may be) is repaired/restored when
you remove it....

b) There is probably a better place to reconnect your constant power
("always hot") to your radio, but I tapped mine into the "live" side of
the master light switch. Your lights do not need the ignition circuit on
in order to receive power.

If anyone has a better place to hook up, let me know! I -still- don't
know how to read those damn schematics and even if I did, I "heard"
they're not so accurate.
