Has anyone tried rebuilding a 78 Spit starter? I've got new bushings and
brushes for mine. The starter wouldn't work while it is on the car but
it would test fine on the bench. It turned out to be worn brushes, they
would not make contact with the armature in the horizontal position.
Changing the brushes looks easy enought but I cannot get the drive/pinion
barrel off the shaft on the armature. Everything else on the shaft has
been removed but the barrel assembly will not come off. Anybody have
any idea as to how to get the barrel off? Thanks.
