Greetings fellow Triumph enthusiasts!
In case anyone noticed, I was away from the lists for a week. I took a
Jeep tour down to Arizona to attend my brother-in-law's wedding in
Phoenix, AZ. We took the wife's Jeep Wrangler on it's first extended
road trip. I was a bit disappointed in the mileage, especially since
gas prices are so high these days. But I guess considering the shape of
the vehicle and 4WD, 17 mpg isn't so bad. I traveled about 3600 miles
and saw fuel prices in the wide range of $1.139/gal. to $1.759/gal. with
an average price of $1.479. I was a bit surprised to find that in
Arizona, the fuel is about the same as in Washington and California is
all over the place. This rather confirms the suspicion I have had all
along that the gasoline shortage is fabricated in order to gouge
customers on their fuel costs.
On the trip, I saw only one Triumph. That one was a Russet Brown
Spitfire 1500 being towed on a 2-wheel dolly behind a red pickup across
the desert in Arizona. I did see the remains of the race cars being
towed south on I5 from Buttonwillow on Sunday, but there were no
Triumphs in the parade. Only a few MG's, a Porsche, a Jag, a Lotus 7, a
Datsun and a couple of Formula cars. Further up the I5, I did see a
white MGTD being trailered behind a U-Haul truck.
Anyway, I'm back on the list now and have put on my Nomex fire suit and
am ready for you guys to start criticizing my spelling and typing errors
again!!! 8^)

P.S. My wife's Jeep has the 4.0 Liter straight 6 with automatic
transmission, air, Power brakes, Power steering and a hardtop, so I
really can't complain about the ride or the comfort! But I was rather
surprised how smooth the thing runs at 80 and 90 mph!!!
