I need to replace the heater valve on my Spitfire, but I need to know the
operation of the correct one for my car. There are several ones, and from
what I remember, mine (a 72 MK4) is the odd one that is no longer
available, EXCEPT that one can order one for an MGB (yes I know) remove the
pop rivet, disassemble the unit, and replace everything on the old one
except the mounting base, with the new components. I believe the mounting
base of the original MK4 Spitfire style is no longer in production and that
is the reason the unusual replacement procedure outlined above (at least I
remember having to do this previously. Maybe now they are being
reproduced). Anyway, my current valve actuation rotates clockwise to shut
the heater flow OFF. Does this sound correct for those of you with a MK4
Spitfire? Do any of the other year replacement Spitfire valves use this
particular rotation - NOT all Spitfires use the same valve and for my
application I MUST have a clockwise OFF rotation - hence this solicitation
for info :-)
Actually to be more accurate view the valve operation while looking at the
valve itself. The cable must then PUSH at the valve end to close it (the
distance of the inner, operating cable becomes greater between the cable
clamp and the clevis or pinch pin on the operating lever) to stop water
flow and effectively shut the heater off, and pull (distance becomes
shorter) to open allowing flow and turn the heater on.
