That never really caught on in the US.  Metric bolts are actually near
impossible to buy at the hardware store without going to the "special" bolts
section where they sell them for about $1 a piece.  Most farm supply stores,
or Northern equipment stores sell bolts and nuts by the pound (the weight,
not the money;)  Where I buy mine it's about $2.80 a lb for grade 8
fasteners.
