Hi Mike
I think the purpose for this plug is to apply a slight biasing pressure on
the rack to reduce bump noise from the rack moving in the bush. the rubber
mount provides the pressure. There is no real right or wrong way to fit,
might be an idea to fit the opposite way round from original to start the
wear process from scratch. do not fit this rubber with a solid rack mount
round it unless it has provision to do this job, as the pressure from the
solid clamp will be excessive.

| As part of restoration of my 79 Spit, I was cleaning up the steering
| rack prior to painting and refit with new bushings. I found a small
| plug that appears to be made of nylon in the rack housing. It was
| covered with tape and came out during the scrub.
|
| Question: What purpose does it serve and is there any "right way" to
| put it back into the opening in the rack housing?
|
| Thanks!
