Hi John - don't have much to offer but figure at very least misery loves
company.
My 1977 Spit "Hobbs" is a daily driver which does the same thing. 1296
engine, Weber DGV, header, mechanical fuel pump. Glass fuel filter which
travels above the header.
Usually only occurs 3-4 times annually, usually when very hot (I live in
Phoenix, so that's 100+ degrees) and most often immediately after highway
driving and then coming to a slow/stop situation. Every once in a while,
though, it happens for almost no reason except that I have been running
errands so I have parked the car for less than 10-15 minutes more than once
on the trip.
So far I have doggedly hung onto my mechanical fuel pump because I like
it, but assume a rear-mounted electric job would take care of the problem. I
also make sure I have a nice clean air filter and good, hot plugs. Beyond
that, I just hope for the best.
I didn't think 77s had vented tanks... I usually get a "whoosh" when
opening the tank when the tank is nearly empty.
Any further comments from the list re: vented tanks or other helpful
hints? Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Scott

75 Spit "Rufio" - driveable but in process of full resto
