Ben,

This kid doesn't think $40.00 is a good price to buy a used alternator. 
I didn't even look past one parts book, Victoria British, and they only
want 99.99 for a new one.  And I know you can beat their price easily.

However, there is info in the archives regarding a basic bolt-in swap for
a GM alternator I believe, which is something like $40.00 new.   See

for the specific part number if your interested in more information on
this.
