Thanks for your replies...

Ive revised my plan:

Seeing as I have a knowingly working carb unit - Im going to keep that on the
car. Ill change the standard air filter over to the K&Ns. Im guessing that the
carbs that have the K&N filters fitted most probably have the right needles
fitted to suit the K&Ns. So if they are the right ones - Ill swap the needles
over. And do the same thing with the springs in the dash pots? I have always
thought the acceleration was rather jerky and uncontrolable. That might solve
that one. When I had the new carbs on that was one thing that seemed much
better.

So once Ive fiddled about with swapping needles and springs might it be worth
getting the carbs tuned professionally? Although Im pretty sure that there set
up fine at the moment - once I start dabbling I imagine theyre going to go out
of sync?

Obviously the changing of needles and springs will take time - but what do you
reckon to just slapping on those K&Ns when I get home tonight? Can I run on
them for the time being - and not change the needles? Ill probably be able to
change the needles etc at the weekend sometime.

Im so impatient......
